Hiya!!
I casted on "the boobholder" a few weeks ago and finally had the time again to work further on it. I'm using Phildar impact 3.5 in "braise" and Phildar superbaby in "chocolate". By holding the strings of yarn together I was able to get the right gauge and make the colors less "in-your-face". I'm currently on row 15 and was also confused about where the sleeve sections were, but thanks to this blog, I can now continue on. I will hopefully be able to post some pictures tomorrow on this wip on my blog. Will keep you posted....

I'm a little late knitting this summer sweater, I know, but better late than never. I saw this sweater two months ago and knew I had to knit one. I had a few things to knit first, so it had to wait, but now I'm pretty much done and I love it. It took me only 4 days to knit which I was quite surprised about. I have yet to sew in the ends and I have to find a good button for the front, but it's done and it fits. I'm thinking of knitting a second one and extending the waist down a bit like Tami made hers.
I had a few questions I wanted to ask while knitting, but I didn't want to wait for the answers so I just kept knitting. Did anyone else knit 10 rows more than in the pattern called for just before you separate the sleeves from the main body? Am I that big that I need 10 more rows? I ripped twice trying to get it to fit at this stage and the only thing that worked was 10 rows more. I'll post my picture as soon as I get it done.

Quick question: I am at the section where you add the sleeve stitches, and I'm confused. Can someone tell me which are the "sleeves" and which is the body? is it this:

sleeve PM sleeve PM body PM sleeve PM sleeve

or

sleeve PM body PM body PM body PM sleeve

I thought it was the second way but I also remembered less markers so I'm not sure how to proceed.

Newbie and new sweaters!

Hi! I've just started the minisweater after being a longtime reader of Stefanie's blog. I also just finished her One Skein Wonder and a friend finished her minisweater in 2 days so I was ready to start my own.

Today I cast on not one but two minisweaters. I started one in Rowan Cork, then decided I didn't like the garter stitch border but instead of frogging it, I decided to restart in my Rowan DK Marl. I'm not sure if it will work out or if I'll have enough DK Marl to finish, so I'm completing both simultaneously, if possible.

I'll put some photos on my blog later today if I can't get them uploaded here.

... Because it's done! I finished my lovely Minisweater. It's fabulous, probably one of my favorite things I've ever made. I wore it out and got compliments galore. Ofcourse I'm going to have to make another one. I might have to make TWO more, since my 13 yeard old sister is begging for one of her own. Take a look at my blog to see pics. :)

I finished! I used Lorna's Laces Shepherd Worsted in black purl. I used way less yardage than was called for, so I guess my gauge was off. It fits me, so I don't care!

Hi!

This is my first post. This is also the first thing I've tried to knit that wasn't a scarf. Possibly not the best choice as it's a little complicated.

Anyway, I've knit about 11 rows only to realize that I haven't been increasing using the right method. My question: Does it matter if I increase by knitting into the same stitch or do I have to increase by knitting the stitch below (as the pattern calls for)? If I do have to increase by knitting the stitch below, does anyone know a good tutorial for that, because I haven't been able to find one.

Apologies if this has already been asked, but what exactly is meant by this:

work increase row as normal, but increase five stitches evenly over both sleeve sections.

Ok, so I need to do five increases in the sleeve sections, right. But the type of increase I have been doing (KLL and KRL) wouldn't really work in the middle of the fabric. So, do I just count my stitches and do a different type over the sleeve sections?
Also, on the sleeves-- they are knit flat, then seamed? Am I reading that correctly?

Hi! This is actually my first post here, although I've been part of this KAL for a little while now. I'm making my Minisweater out of Arucania Nature Cotton in a medium cornflower blue, so I can wear it all through the summer.

I'm almost embarassed to say it, but I'm pretty far along! I finished the raglan increases and am working on the body right now. I felt like the increases took forever, so I'm glad they're done. Everything is going smoothly, except I'm begining to notice that the skein of yarn I just finished looks kindof stripy compared to the other two skeins I'm using. It's subtle in some light, and glaringly obvious in others, so I'm not sure if I want to actually do anything about it. I might just be lazy and finish it anyway.

I just started the minisweater. I'm hoping it will fit well and not look silly on my less-than-ample rack!!
I'm using Lorna's Laces Shepherd Worsted in Black Purl. It's soooo soft and lovely!

It's been close to 90 degrees here the last couple days so I haven't made much headway, but I'm hoping it will be a quick knit once I get going.

My minisweater! Wore it out tonight and got many comments, all kind. It's the funniest looking thing I've ever knit and kind of my favorite. I love all of these green yarns and now they're together forever! This was a scrap-buster but I STILL have scraps so I think I'll make this lovely scrap shawl featured in Interweave, or a memories capelet...

I did do the spikes, but only on the neck and they need a blocking to be more pointed. I did a crochet edge on the sleeves to make a teensy ruffle. I love crochet edges!

I'll definitely be using this pattern again, it is flattering and fun, and so very versitile. Everyone is making such lovely versions, and none of them are the same!

It's been slow going, but I've made some progress.... I'm so close to being done with the raglan... it's fun, but mindbogglingly boring at the same time.

I tried it on the other day, and its looking good! I love the way it poofs... I used some nasty green acrylic and its really holding its shape well. I think I'll make another one out of something else soon, or some sort of variation... I'm diggin how easy this pattern is to master.

My not-so-MiniSweater

I used 2 1/4 balls of Cottonease in Sugarplum and size 9 Denice Interchangeable needles. I also changed the border to moss stitch and added a few inches of lace below the button band. I really love how it came out! I'll be wearing this sucker all summer long. I finished a black one a few weeks ago, you can see it here. Thanks for letting me share! I've enjoyed seeing everyone's version of this great pattern.

Here is my finished minisweater. I think I'm really happy with how it turned out. I'll have to wait until it is completely blocked and ready before I weigh in with my final thoughts. However, it was a lot of fun to knit. A lot of fun, that is, until I had to start ripping out bound-off sections and re-knitting (this happened on the botton hem and on both sleeves.) Hopefully it was worth it, though. I also had to make an actual button hole (my very first!) because a yo buttonhole would not have accomodated my button. I will post a modeling pic as soon as the blocking is done.

After a cyber kick in the pants from someone on the Knitty Board, I decided to move backwards with the Mini Sweater -- in the name of moving forward. Ripping projects has been a theme of late in LumayLand, so this should not have required a moment's thought.
This, however, requires several long moments of thought:

It definately fits better than before...

BUT...

I think it does nothing whatsoever to flatter my figure. I am going to set this aside for the summer. I will come back to it in September, when the weather and my weight are more condusive to the woolie mammouth.
Ladies, consider my MiniSweater complete.

Well, I;ve started again, broken hand and all. This time I am using NoroSilk Garden in a really springy interesting colorway.

This yarn is both a delight and an oddity to work with.

It is suck a mix of colors, textures, and thicknesses. But the outcome so far is beautiful. I am about 2 increases in.

We will see if the kitties leave this one alone...

Sweater Sack

I am nearly finished with my Mini Sweater, and there is something about it... I still have to work the garter edge on the sleeves, but it seems less fitted and more like a sack. I love the yarn (Lang Tosca), which striped very nicely.

Should I rip back a few rows or can I work this? The yarn is wool, so maybe when I block it the sizing will "shrink" a bit.

Just as everyone else seems to be finishing their minisweaters, I have finally gotten around to starting on mine. And after several small fiascoes (including leaving the pattern on an airplane, and frogging about 20 rows in because I didn't like the look of the raglan shaping), I finally have something worthy of being posted.

My apologies--the photo is rather dark. Here's a close-up of the increases, which I am doing in pairs of M1F and M1B.

Just a quick question: You really are supposed to purl all the way across row 14, right? Even though this causes you to lose the garter border for a few rows?

To answer the question about how I depuffed the sleeves...I think I just skipped the increase row that says K3, M1...and then skipped the decreasing on the sleeves altogether. Hope it helps!

Hello! I'm knitting the minisweater in some alpaca yarn I received as a gift from Ecuador. I've finished the body of the boobholder. I don't think I have enough black alpaca to finish the sleeves, so I've decided to finish them with the same alpaca yarn, only it's a cream color. I'm hoping this won't look weird. I really don't know how this is going to fit on me, it seems kind of tiny, but alot of people have said they knittied it too big. So I'm hoping I guess. When I CO I didn't even know where I was starting it. The top? The bottom? Where is everything!? But it seems to be coming togetehr nicely.

Here are the m1 increases on the sleeve sections. I ended up with a little bit of an eyelet almost, but the puckering of the sleeves sort of covers it up well. I really dig the puckery sleeves... I hope its amaing when I'm done. I don't know what I'm going to use for the edging, I'm actually thinking about using orange. I have a ton of bright orange yarn. Dinosaury? Maybe... we'll see!

Frogging It

I am having to frog it a few rows. I didn't print out a copy of the pattern and was trying to knit by memory. I went a little crazy with the increase rows. Here is a picture of the yarn and color that I am using. It seems to be a good match for the pattern. I am not sure what to use for the border. Any suggestions?

Oh man... I've got this going in some celery green stuff I got from my Grandmother. I think it's acrylic... but I think it also softens up a whole bunch after washing. It's the same stuff she used to make every afghan in my house and those are super nice.

I finally have a picture of my sweater in progress:

I took this on the second day of working on the project, but I am actually almost done with it now... except that I ran into a problem & now I have a question for everyone who is making non-puffy sleeves.

How are you all doing it??

I just knit straight, but the bind-off edge is a tiny bit too snug, even though I bound off with bigger needles to try to make it loose. Then, I frogged the sleeve and worked a few increases at the seam edge, but this messed up the shape of the sleeve, so I frogged again. I was thinking of trying to knit the garter stitch band with size 10.5 needles to see if that would make it a little looser. I just need like another centimeter of space for my arms to be comfy. It is frustrating me.

I think part of the problem is that I knit the sweater with angora (it was my first time knitting with angora) and it doesn't have very much stretch. Anyhow, I would really appreciate any advice on how to make non-puffy sleeves for this sweater.

Progress on my minisweater. I'm using Licorice Cotton-Ease and making it for Hawaiilove from Craftster. You can't tell because the yarn is so black, but I'm on Row 25. I'm not making the sleeves puffy so I ignored the instructions from Row 17 and just increased as normal. Ok, now a question....when it gives the total rows in parenthesis before you separate the stitches...is that including the 8 garter stitch rows? I tried to count and do the math, but my brain just isn't working today! Thanks!

About one month ago, I purchase four balls of this Lang Tosca, thinking that I would use it to make a vest.

The vest idea went by the wayside, and the yarn languished.
The guage is 12, rather than 13, but I think it will make a great Mini Sweater.

I ran into some problems with a sweater I'm making for my mother for mother's day. I can't stand it anymore though! I'm planning on casting on for the minisweater either today or tomorrow. Got to check my needle supply. I'm using Plymouth Encore in petal yellow. I think it's going to be very nice for spring.

Hello all,
I'm new to the Minisweater KAL... My name is Kate. I just started my sweater two days ago and I love this project so far. It knits up really fast. I am already to the part where you separate the sleeve stitches and start on the body. The only thing that I have had trouble with is the increases on this part. The pattern says to m1 on the purl side, but that was looking really funny on mine, so I decided to work the increases on the knit side. I knit 7 then m1 knit until 7 remain, m1 then knit the remaining stitches so there is a smooth line along the garter stitch band. Did anyone else have trouble with this part?
Anyhow, overall, I really like the sweater and I am already daydreaming about making it again. I love to see the different yarns that every one is using for their sweaters, too. I am making this one in grey angora that I got a thrift store. I think I might make another one with some scraps of two different colorways of Noro Silk Garden that I have. I think the pattern would lend itself to self-striping yarn.

So far, so good. I was afraid that knitting with the regular pattern would not be ample enough for my chest, but it works just fine. I think it will fit really well.

Passion Flower Beginnings

I am knitting my minisweater in Classic Elite Star, color:Passion Flower. It's working pretty well; however, I am a little worried about the gauge. The yarn stretches a lot. I am also using a m1 increase on either side of the markers. It is making pretty little bars that look like yarn overs. I'd like to try this sweater with a lace pattern that incorporated increases.

I am a little confused by the pattern though. I have just finished the two sets of increases that come after the garter stitch beginning. What part of the sweater have I just made? Am I missing something? I suppose I need to have a little faith and just keep knitting.

I am currently w/o camera, so I'll have to hunt someone down soon. This sweater is an addictive knit, I should be done soon (with the sweater at least, the spikes look time consuming).

I'm randomly striping, they're all varying widths, and there is no pattern, but if you're ever looking for a really cool striping sequence, check out this random stripe generator:

I love stripes and this site/tool is amazing.

After the green, I'm going to be making a red one because I have just as many red scraps as I do green...this is such a great scrap project. Ashiko's contrasting sleeves are a great example of how necessity is the mother of (really cool looking) invention. It reminds me of one of those baseball raglan tees, but fancy!

One quick question: how is everybody increasing? It's totally up to the knitter, I'm really curious what everyone chose. I'm using paired M1 increases--so before a marker, I make a right leaning and after I make a left leaning. Someone did this on Craftster, and I'm like the effect. It creates a little bar, and a hole, and they stack up to look like a ladder. I'm going to try to emphasize when I block.

Oh, another poll--how do you all feel about the puffed sleeves? Many people skip them, but I'm gonna rock them like Anne Shirley from Anne of Green Gables...

Miniature Stegosaurous

Hi, everyone! I'm a huge Stephanie Japel fan and this pattern was next in my list...I was trying to be good and finish up my winter sweaters before diving in, but this knit-along came along at just the right time. I've never joined a knit-along before, but I'm thinking this will work the same way exercising at the gym does, and that the mild peer-pressure will curtail any laziness.

I am currently working the increase rows, I'm around Row 14. I'm using a lot of different yanrs, all of them green leftovers from other projects. I am planning to knit the spikes, and I'm really hoping that my sweater will end up looking dino-esque.

So, here's my "progress".

I got that far. Then decided that I was gonna run out of yarn (I'm using a leftover cone from my first ever sweater). So, I ripped it right out, and pondered for a while. Then pulled out some of Katia's "Mississippi", which I absolutely looove, and decided to use that for the arms.

Using a different yarn for the sleeves is only something I'd reccomend if you've got a good amount of separate balls of yarn (try 5). I just randomly wound up my own. Bad idea.
To help me cut down on current projects, I've got three shoeboxes. One per project at a time. Want to start something new? Bad luck, you'll have to motivate yourself and finish soemthing else first. It works.
But yeah. This is what my Boobholder Box looks like.

This is the stuff of nightmares. All my chunks of yarn (they used to kind of look a little like balls of yarn. Now they are just knots. Lots.) have just mashed together. It takes like, ten minutes to get one row done, if I'm lucky. :'(
Ah well. It's gonna look so cute though :D

For the one that's on my needles now, I'm using Lorna's Laces: Fisherman, in the RIver colorway. It's very pretty, and handles well. I've already frogged this one once, after I had the sleeves done, since the sleeves were huge on me even after the decreases. So now I'm trying on the current one after every couple of rows, also i've made some modifications to the sleeves so they won't be so huge this time. This one will be my winter early spring one. I'm planning on also making one in cotton for those cool summer nights.

I am actually already half done with this sweater!

The yarn that I am using is actually a smaller worsted weight, so my minisweater is coming out pretty stretchy and light. That's perfect, seeing that the hot weather is moving in.

The great thing about this pattern is that it seems like it allows for many types of yarn, since you just knit until it fits you.
